A friend of mine wrote this, and dammit, I agree. So tired of the b.s. Just go away GOP, please?

'I just don't think the President has the personality for the combative realities of government/politics in the US. These people despise him, will do anything to get him out of office (including holding the economy hostage with the intent of keeping things bad until the election) yet he continues to think he can work with them? He could have made raising the debt ceiling a condition for extending the Bush tax cuts last winter but showed good faith and I don't know why.

Two thirds of the country think a mix of tax increases and spending cuts are the way to go, he should be hammering the right on this, he's got public opinion and basic fairness on his side."

It seems everybody knows what needs to be down as far as cutting government salaries and limiting the years a politician can serve and getting rid of lobbyists and alot of other things. But it seems those in power would hate to see that day come. So they want to continue to lie, cheat, and steal to keep the gravy train running along.

I say let the GOP gut medicare, medicaid, social security and then watch the revolution begin.

Well, I don't claim to know better, but just wish the two parties would spend time to work on the issues, instead of fighting each other.

How would you determine that commission?

It was more or less tongue in cheek, but if we could minimize all the bureaucracy and 'back scratching' stuff that goes on in Washington (as well as state/local governments) with a more incentive layden approach I think we'd be a little better off. Government officials should operate on a more volunteer basis and not recieve direct compensation for bills and regulations that they pass or the grants they misuse/waste money on..........but I'm sure this will not be corrected...not in our lifetime. Unless, of course, everyone grabs their pitchforks and torches! ;)

There needs to be a third party that is as strong as the other two. At least. More if possible. Anything but a two party system that allows for party line votes to deadlock the government. No lobbyists either. And limited terms of office. No one in congress should be allowed to serve more than two, or maybe three, terms. Being able to make politics a career is a huge part of the problem. It's public service. The people in office should come from real life, do their bit and get something for it, then go back to those lives they came from.

My hope is that the GOP is fracture. If it were to split into two, and if some moderate democrats were to join the new moderate Republicans, we'd end up with the three parties we need. A right, a left, a moderate middle, and always someone to break the tie.

I wonder if the people in office have any REAL idea just how much the American public has grown to hate them. It really feels like it's at an all-time high. Maybe not for all of our history, but certainly in our lifetimes and possibly our parents. Maybe more.

Oh - the other worst culprit in all of this: the news media. I'm as sick of them as I am the politicians themselves.
